Maserati was founded in Bologna on December 1, 1914.

A brand created by Alfieri Maserati, a young man from a family of seven children. Five of the seven would develop a real interest in cars, just like their father, who was passionate about cars and speed.

In 1914, four brothers—Alfieri, Bindo, Ettore, and Ernesto—founded Officine Alfieri Maserati, a garage that prepared race cars based on Isotta-Fraschini models. These cars were designed for the "gentlemen" of the era.

A few years later, the Tipo 26 was launched. It was the first vehicle to bear the famous trident emblem of the brand.

A trident-shaped logo? That was the idea of Mario Maserati, one of the sons, who was studying fine arts. He was inspired by the statue in Bologna, and more specifically by the trident it holds.

Until the 1960s, Maserati named its vehicles using numbers, such as the 3500GT, a grand touring coupe with a 3.5-liter engine, or the 5000GT. From the 1960s onwards, Maserati began naming its cars after famous winds. For example, the Mistral, named after a wind in the south of France, the Ghibli, after a wind in the Sahara, and the Levante, a gentle Mediterranean wind. These names evoke powerful and elegant natural elements, reflecting the spirit of the brand.
