Did you know? The Mercedes brand was registered by Emil Jellinek, who chose the name in honor of his daughter, who had the same first name.
The story begins in 1886 with Karl Benz, a German engineer who filed a patent for a combustion engine car. Gottlieb Daimler presented a motorized carriage.
The Mercedes Benz brand was registered in 1902, and the Mercedes star was registered as a trademark in 1909.
In 1913, Mercedes opened a store on the Champs-Elysées. A few years later, Daimler and Benz merged to become Daimler-Benz AG.
In 1970, Mercedes-Benz France SA, a subsidiary of Daimler-Benz AG, was legally established, and it was only seven years later that Mercedes-Benz France moved its headquarters to Rocquencourt.
In 1994, after 108 years of existence, Micro Compact Car AG was launched.
This was followed by a merger between Daimler and Chrysler, which became DaimlerChrysler and a 100% shareholder in MCC AG.
It was not until 2005 that Dieter Zetsche took over as head of the Mercedes Car Group and became chairman of DaimlerChrysler.
In 2007, Daimler and Chrysler ended their merger and subsequently became Mercedes-Benz Group AG. One year later, Mercedes-Benz France was created.
